THE future of some fire stations - and the way they are manned - is under a county-wide review.
Fire chiefs are planning to look at the way all nine day-crewed stations in Kent operate.
The stations are in Sheppey, Sittingbourne, Faversham, Tonbridge, Sevenoaks, Larkfield, Whitstable, Herne Bay and Deal.
Bosses say the review is needed to ensure that the service is “providing the most efficient, effective and economical service possible to council tax payers”.
Currently, firefighters at day-crewed stations work four consecutive days and are on standby from home during the evening.
The changes may include the number of hours crews spend at the station and using retained firefighters in areas where there is lower demand.
