A proposal to review whether Kent's cricket committee is "fit for purpose" has been temporarily sidelined as the club come to terms with the loss of their director of cricket and two key batsmen.
Kent chairman George Kennedy had put forward an idea to review the future of the county's cricket committee during the summer, after questioning whether it should have the power to decide over the futures of the playing staff.
However, with the resignation of Paul Farbrace as director of cricket and the departures of Martin van Jaarsveld and Joe Denly, plans to investigate the effectiveness of the cricket commitee, a group of ex players including Derek Ufton, Derek Underwood, Min Patel and Chris Tavare which is led by chairman of cricket, Graham Johnson, has been shelved for the time being.
Kennedy said: "The cricket committee has existed for a long time and what I suggested to Graham and some of the others is 'is it fit for purpose in today's game?' Some clubs do not have a cricket committee at all, they just have a director of cricket and that seems to work quite well.
"On the other hand, bringing together a group of people as experts who can advise is absolutely fine as well.
"We have guys that have played at the highest possible level and taking their advice is one thing, whether that same group should be dictating the futures of the players is another matter because everything eventually comes back to the general committee to decide.
"It was something I floated at the last committee meeting and was up for debate and then of course the season ended and we had a little bit of turmoil in the camp with a few changes, so it's on the back burner for now.
"There's no rush, we have the right people in situ, Graham is still there and Jamie Clifford needs to be actively involved as well because, of course, he is actually running the club. Graham and Jamie will be the people that come up with the recommendations to the general committee."
