Road re-opened after accident

Two women in their 70s have been taken to hospital following an accident this morning.

The three car collision happened at around 10am today on the Maidstone-bound carriageway of the A249 near the Stockbury roundabout.

None of the people involved sustained serious injuries and police said the two women were taken to hospital as a precaution.

The road, between Key Street in Sittingbourne and the Stockbury roundabout, was closed for a few hours and traffic diverted via the A2 while emergency services cleared the road and re-gritted.

It re-opened just before midday.

Police are now encouraging drivers to take extra care on the roads in the icy conditions.
