The right-hand drive models will be available with a 698cc, 80 bhp engine, costing £13,495 on the road for the roadster and £14,495 on the road for the roadster-coupe.
The standard specification for the right-hand drive models includes an electrically-operated soft top, six-spoke 15 inch alloy wheels, driver and passenger airbags, electric windows, six-speed SOFTIP sequential transmission, with SOFTOUCH automatic mode, electrically assisted power steering, radio CD and leather steering wheel and gearknob.
Additional specification for the roadster-coupe includes wider 12 spoke 15 inch alloy wheels, gloss finish two-piece removable hard-top, air conditioning, glass fastback with additional 103 litres of storage space and a centre armrest.
The left-hand drive versions will be available in June, with either a 698cc, 80 bhp engine, costing from £12,495 on the road for the roadster and £13,495 on the road for the roadster-coupe; or an entry level model with a 698cc, 61 bhp engine, costing £9,995.
Jeremy Simpson, head of smart in the UK, said: “This latest addition to the smart range kicks off the smart product offensive in 2003 as we become a multi-product brand.”
He added: “The roadster and roadster-coupe have already received rave reviews in the press, however, it’s the smiles per hour our customers will enjoy that make the car a real winner.”
Standard specification for all smart models includes the electronic stability programme fitted as standard.
According to smart, using electronic sensors, ESP detects dangers far earlier and faster than even the most experienced driver.
