Rob Key believes Kent’s decision to play a "home" game at The Oval this summer could be the way ahead as counties battle to survive in the present financial climate.
The unprecedented move which sees the county face Essex in south east London on Friday July 9 has upset many of the traditionalists among the membership but Key maintains ventures like this present a huge advantage.
He said: "Signing players and producing players all cost money and I know some supporters may not be happy about it but we need to make as much money as we can.
"The upside for a county like us is going to be huge.
"I have not always with agreed with every money-making scheme at Kent but this one promises to be a massive day for the club."
