Kent's valiant attempt to force their first win of the season was cut short by the rain at Trent Bridge in a Clydesdale Bank 40 game against Notts Outlaws that had already been truncated by wet weather on Saturday.

Steady rain throughout the day looked to have ruined any chance of play, but a 10-over a side match was attempted at 6pm and Kent made a wholehearted attempt to chalk up their first victory.

Put into bat by the hosts, Kent openers Joe Denly and Rob Key launched into the Notts attack, blasting 73 in rapid time before Denly was bowled by Steven Mullaney for 28, a 14-ball innings which included four fours and a six.

Key (pictured) perished a few balls later for an even more impressive 44 from 18 balls. The Kent captain smashed five fours and three sixes before becoming Mullaney’s second victim.

Darren Stevens was unbeaten on five and Martin van Jaarsveld was yet to face a ball when the players were called off with Kent having raced to an impressive 78-2 from just 6.1 overs.

The point gained from Kent’s second no result in Group C in the competition, means that Key’s men have just two points from three games.
