Robber snatches cash from Co-op staff

POLICE are hunting a young man who robbed staff at the Co-op store in Pound Road, East Peckham, near Maidstone.

The raider entered the store at about 7.30pm on Tuesday via an open back door and told the members of staff to go into an office where another employee was doing administrative work.

In a threatening way, he indicated that he had something in his pocket and demanded that staff give him money which he put in a bag.

He left the shop through the back door. It is not known in which direction he went. No weapon was seen by staff and no-one was hurt.

The robber is described as white, about 20 years old and of stocky build. He was wearing a black balaclava and a long grey jacket.

Police would like to hear from anyone who went into the shop or who may have been in the area at about the time the incident happened.

It appears a woman customer went into the shop when the man was with the staff in the office and detectives would like to identify her as she may have information that may assist their investigation. They would like to hear about vehicles seen in the area.

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact police on 01732 379217 or Kent Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
