ARMED robbers raided a golf club and made off with more than £3,000 worth of golf equipment and cash.

The two robbers brandished a knife and what looked like a black handgun during the raid on Chelsfield Lakes Golf Club, near Orpington.

Two male members of staff, aged 19 and 21, were in the golf pro shop attached to the club.

They were just about to close the shop when two men came through the front door, both wearing balaclavas. One of the them pulled out a long bladed knife, described as a hunting knife, and held it towards them.

The other robber lifted up his top, revealing the butt of what appeared to be a black handgun.

They ordered the employees to open a safe and also seized golf clubs during the raid before making their getaway in a vehicle.

One member of staff also had his personal golf clubs taken.

Both robbers are white and about 30 years old.

The robber with the knife was wearing dark clothing and a black balaclava.

The other man, brandishing the gun, wore a green jacket, jeans and balaclava. The property taken included four ‘Yes’ putters and a quantity of professional Titleist golf clubs. The robbery, which happened on Wednesday, February 13, at about 8.30pm, is being investigated by the Met’s Flying Squad. Det Con Mark Murdoch said: “You may be approached to buy second hand golf clubs. They are quite distinctive and if you have any doubts, please call us.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Flying Squad on 020 7232 6530 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
