Big name musicians converge on Birchington’s Quex park this weekend for an open air music spectacular.

Three nights of entertainment featuring distinctly different styles have been lined up for the Sound Island Festival.

On Friday, July 25, indie rock bands take centre stage with performances by Elliot Minor, Scouting for Girls, and The Hoosiers.

Saturday is a reggae night with UB40, Aswad and Imperial Leisure headlining.

On Sunday, the musical focus switches to classical music when soprano Katherine Jenkins and classical-pop group Blake top the bill.

Both The Hoosiers and Scouting For Girls will play their full concert sets and will be supported by Elliot Minor who are gaining a growing following nationwide, and locally after a recent gig at the West Coast venue in Margate.

UB40 have flown the flag of reggae pop for almost 30 years scoring chart hits with a range of numbers including One In Ten, Red, Red, Wine, Rat In Me Kitchen, and I Got You Babe (with Chrissie Hynde) while Aswad have been festival favourites around Europe for decades.

Tickets are available from Margate Winter Gardens. Telephone 01843 296111.
