I was away last week on what was supposed to be a holiday but instead of getting my youngest son off to school then having the rest of the day to potter around, pop to the pub and generally relax he decided to catch a cold which turned into croup with a bit of conjunctivitis thrown in for good measure.
So, instead of my lazy week, I ended up tearing around like one of those flies with a blue bottom.
Cooking, washing, ironing and administering to a small sick child left me feeling decidedly unwell myself.
When I went looking for sympathy from Mrs Mower and related my daily tales of hardship all I got back was: "Now you know what it's like to be a mother."
She's since been telling everybody what a wonderful housewife I'd make.
So to that end when I was finally released on Friday I went into Canterbury for a bit of retail therapy having first parked the car really, really badly!
Things you don't often see (Number 1): Taking the Herne Bay turn from the London-bound carriageway of the Thanet Way on Saturday morning, I spotted a baby's changing table complete with changing mat and nappies at the side of the road.
I can only think that some poor unfortunate parent had had a puncture and was forced to unload the back of the car to get at the spare wheel and in the rush to get back on the road again had forgotten about it.
You can imagine the conversation that must have ensued when the parents realised what had happened.
The Whitstable Winkle Comedy Festival kicks off this week from Thursday featuring Hatty Hayridge amongst a cast of many.
You can find details at www.whitstablewinkle.co.uk
I spotted Steve from the ice cream parlour in Harbour Street advertising it around Whitstable on Saturday afternoon clad in khaki wearing a pith helmet and bawling through a megaphone from a motorised rickshaw!
Out and about in the next few days I will be at Whitefriars in Canterbury on Wednesday at 12.30pm to start the clock for the Countdown to Meltdown.
There's going to be a huge lump of ice measuring half a metre wide and a metre tall weighing roughly 17-18 stones containing some coins, the idea is that listeners to kmfm need to text how long they think it will take to melt and release the coins.
The listener with the nearest time will win £1,000 to spend in Whitefriars shops. Details at our website www.kmfm.co.uk/canterbury.
On Tuesday, September 23, I shall be at the UKC between Rutherford and Eliot colleges at 2pm for the world record attempt of the Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Where's Wally and the attempt to break the world record for the Largest Game of Musical Statues.
It's in aid of the Kent charity Miles for Smiles who will be bringing down some kids on the day to take part in the attempt.
As the event is taking part in Freshers Week there will be a huge amount of students on campus who will be taking part. I've always enjoyed Freshers Week ever since I got marooned in Woody's Bar one night surrounded by young females in varying states of undress - not good for an old man's heart though.
Listen to Bob Mower weekdays on the kmfm breakfast show from 7-11am at 106fm.
