ALASTAIR MCKEAN is targeting a second world title after being named in the Great Britain Adaptive Rowing Mixed Coxed Four to compete in next month’s world championships at Eton, Berkshire, the first time the United Kingdom has staged the event in 20 years.

His selection means he has moved a step closer to his “ultimate ambition” of winning a place in the squad when the sport makes its Paralympic debut at the 2008 Games in Beijing.

McKean, a member of Herne Bay Rowing Club, lost 80 per cent mobility in his right arm in a serious motorbike accident at Chestfield, near Herne Bay, seven years ago.

Alastair won his first world title in Japan last year and is considering leaving his job to take up rowing full-time.

He is bidding to attract sponsorship from local businesses which might be keen to support his bid for world and Paralympic glory.

In a letter to potential backers he writes: "I would like to consider reducing my working hours so I can commit to achieving my goal of becoming Paralympic champion.

"Any amount of sponsorship or support would be greatly appreciated, and in return I can advertise companies’ products and trade names in a variety of different ways.

"I will be racing throughout 2006/7 at regattas around the UK and internationally. The world championships are at Eton, and their will be national and local media coverage."
