Maidstone United gave their Ryman League Premier Division survival chances a huge boost with a late 2-1 win at fellow-strugglers Aveley on Saturday.
Alex Flisher gave the Stones the lead on 17 minutes but Junior Dadson looked to have snatched a point for the hosts 14 minutes from time.
However Dan Stubbs (pictured) pounced for the winner eight minutes from time and the Stones held on for the win despite Ronayne Marsh-Brown seeing red for dissent.
Stones are nine points from safety with six games remaining.
Folkestone Invicta missed the chance to close the gap on safety with a late defeat to Hendon at the Buzzlines Stadium.
Frankie Chappell netted from a corner to put Invicta in charge three minutes into the second half but Darren Smith saw a penalty saved and Jimmy Dryden blazed over another chance with the goal gaping as the hosts sought a second.
However the visitors hit the woodwork before levelling 15 minutes from time and then snatched the points in the 87th minute as Invicta tired.
Invicta are second-bottom and seven points from safety but have played two fewer games than the sides above them.
Cray Wanderers failed to do Folkestone and Maidstone a favour as they went down 3-1 at relegation-threatened Croydon Athletic.
Laurent Hamici grabbed Cray's only goal in the second half but the defeat left the Wands six points short of the play-off places in 11th.
Tonbridge Angels enjoyed a 2-0 win over Wealdstone to boost their play-off credentials.
Ade Olorunda did the damage for the Angels, opening the scoring from close-range on the half-hour and then adding the crucial second 11 minutes from time.
Margate came from behind to draw a see-saw game 2-2 at home to AFC Hornchurch on Saturday.
Dean Hill gave Gate the lead on nine minutes but two goals in as many minutes before the break turned the game on its head.
However Wayne Wilson's corner sailed straight in on 55 minutes to restore parity and Gate survived a late scare to secure a point which kept them 15th and safely away from relegation trouble.
