Whitstable Town produced the shock result of the day in Ryman League Division 1 South on Saturday with their 4-1 victory at third-placed Faversham Town.

After three successive defeats, Nicky Southall’s strugglers ended Faversham’s eight-match unbeaten run with goals from Tom Brunt, Michael Smissen, Jake Beecroft and Oliver Lee. Faversham’s only response was a second-half penalty from Danny Hockton.

Faversham’s defeat means Hythe Town are now only five points behind them, with two matches in hand, after their 1-0 success at Leatherhead, thanks to a late strike from Brendon Cass.

Folkestone Invicta are level on points with Leatherhead in the race for the play-offs after their 3-1 win over Ramsgate at Cheriton Road.

Ian Pulman put the Rams in front but Josh Vincent levelled before the break and second-half goals from Dane Luchford and Frankie Chappell earned Invicta the three points.

Maidstone United maintained their six-point lead at the top with a 3-0 home win over Tooting & Mitcham.

All the goals came in the second half with Ian Draycott, Alex Flisher and Steve Watt on target for the Stones against a Tooting side who had Nathan Koo-Boothe sent off on 61 minutes.

Sittingbourne were beaten 3-1 at second-placed Dulwich Hamlet, where they were always up against it after falling behind in the first minute.

Hamlet scored twice more before Hicham Akhazzan pulled one back for the Brickies two minutes from time.

Herne Bay wasted a 3-0 lead at home to Crawley Down Gatwick before winning 4-3. Goals from James Turner (2) and Sam Bewick put Bay in the control but Crawley Down staged a fightback, only for Byron Walker to grab a late winner.

In the Premier Division, Margate maintained their perfect home record under recently-appointed manager Craig Holloway with a 3-0 victory over Bognor Regis courtesy of goals from Tommy Whitnell (2) and Kezie Ibe.

Cray Wanderers dented Met Police’s play-off hopes with a 4-2 victory at Imber Court through goals by Leigh Bremner (2), Paul Booth and Chris Saunders.

In Ryman League Division 1 North, Chatham twice came from behind to draw 2-2 at home with Cheshunt despite having Lee Hales sent off after 25 minutes. Austin Gacheru scored both Chats’ goals.

ThamesmeadTown led 2-0 at Soham Town thanks to strikes from Rob Carter and Chris Edwards but ended up losing 4-2.
