Sittingbourne made an encouraging start to 2011 with a 1-1 draw at Merstham in Ryman League Division 1 South on New Year's Day.

Bourne dominated for most of the match but it was the home side who scored first, through Billy Marshall after 15 minutes.

The Brickies' pressure was rewarded a minute before half-time when Paul Semakula exchanged passes before firing a shot past keeper Ian Chatfield for a deserved equaliser.

After the break, Tom Bradbrook had some excellent efforts on goal for Sittingbourne but the second half remained goalless.

Cray Wanderers moved second in the Premier Division table after beating Hastings United 2-0 on Saturday.

The home side scored twice early on and were able to see out the game comfortably despite having Leigh Bremner sent off for a tackle on Matt Hall six minutes before half-time.

Bremner had put Cray ahead from a narrow angle in the sixth minute after being set up by Laurent Hamici, Cray's leading scorer then found the net himself three minutes later.
