Ramsgate were the only side in Kent to beat the weather on Saturday as they overcame Eastbourne Town 3-1 in Ryman League Division 1 South thanks to a stunning hat-trick from Simon Pettit (pictured).
While the hard work of groundstaff and volunteers at Southwood ensured the fixture could go ahead, the visitors were less prepared and had to start the game with 10 men as two players travelling by train arrived midway through the second half.
Pettit's superb 25-yard volley set the hosts on their way on 20 minutes and his right-wing cross sailed into the net untouched five minutes into the second half to make it 2-0.
Pettit sealed his treble shortly before the hour when he rose to head in Mitchell Sherwood's cross at the near post.
It was not until 20-minutes from time that Eastbourne introduced their 11th man, Ashley Robinson, and within a minute Town had puleld one back through Peter Cooper.
