Sacked BBC television broadcaster Geoff Clark is back at the BBC - as a radio presenter.

Last October, Clark and Beverley Thompson were fired as co-presenters of the region's flagship news programme BBC South East Today, produced in Tunbridge Wells.

The decision provoked an outcry from viewers and sparked further accusations of ageism against the Corporation.

The two experienced broadcasters were replaced by the younger pairing of Rob Smith and Polly Evans. Even MPs became involved in a campaign to save Clark and Thompson from the axe.

But following a high-level meeting with BBC chiefs in London, ahead of a possible employment tribunal case at Ashford - Clark was claiming unfair dismissal and age discrimination - the situation has been resolved. Clark has taken on a new role as a weekend presenter local radio.

In a brief statement, the BBC said that Clark, who has been shifting as a presenter on the BBC 24 hour news channel, and the corporation had settled all remaining issues. "The BBC is pleased to announce that Geoff is joining the South East Region's radio presentation team."

Mick Rawsthorne, the BBC's head of region, said: "We very much look forward to working with Geoff again and making use of his considerable broadcasting talents and we know our audiences will wish him the best of luck with these new projects."

Clark added: "I am so pleased to say that all this is behind us, and I'm really looking forward to a new career in BBC radio."
