ANOTHER overturned lorry at a new roundabout has prompted fresh calls for immediate action.
It is the latest in a spate of accidents at the roundabout at Cowstead Corner, Minster, Sheppey, set up after the A249 Iwade to Queenborough improvement scheme.
Several high-sided vehicles have rolled over at Cowstead Corner and nearby Neats Court, since the Sheppey Crossing and approach roads opened fully in July last year.
Nobody was injured in the latest incident but local councilloir Jackie Constable (Lab, Queenborough and Halfway) said: “Something needs to be done. This is happening far too regularly.
“I know a review is planned, but people have been asking for action since the roundabouts opened and the accidents started to happen. Are they waiting for someone to die and a family is devastated, before acting?
A Highways Agency spokesman said: “An independent safety audit was carried out during the design and construction phase and a further safety audit, confirming that the new road is fit for purpose, was carried out prior to its opening to traffic.
“Nevertheless, we need to understand the cause of these incidents to determine if it is, indeed, directly related to the design of the road or related to other factors. A review of this area will shortly be undertaken.”
