Rival captains Sam Northeast and Graeme Smith shook hands on a draw on Sunday as the weather proved the only winner in the three-day friendly between Kent and South Africa at the St Lawrence ground.
Both sides will take positives from the rain-reduced contest, with Northeast (54 not out) and Daniel Bell-Drummond (48 not out) both impressing in an unbeaten century stand on the final day, while South Africa gained useful batting practice ahead of the First Test at The Oval which starts on Thursday.
The tourists resumed on 108-2 on Sunday morning, with Hasim Amla (77) and Jacques Kallis (54), both retiring to give their team-mates time at the crease. Jacques Rudolph made 50, and JP Duminy hit 34 as South Africa were eventually dismissed for 314 – a lead of 104.
Charlie Shreck finished with 3-90, and Adam Riley 2-70, with a wicket apiece for Ivan Thomas, Matt Coles and Simon Cook.
Northeast (pictured) and Bell-Drummond who put on 83 for the first wicket in the first innings total of 210, impressed again, the latter hitting Kallis for three fours in his first over.
Northeast made 50 off 62 balls including seven fours, Bell-Drummond two short of his half century, when the end came an hour early.
