AN ELDERLY driver was attacked and robbed of his car when he stopped to help a man and a woman who had crashed in their car.
The 76-year-old was on his way to visit his wife in hospital when he saw an overturned blue Renault Clio in Holly Hill, Paddlesworth Road, Snodland.
The driver, in his 30s, and his female passenger had scrambled from the car after their crash.
When the elderly man pulled up and got out of his car to help, the driver grabbed him, snatched his mobile phone and car keys and made off in the victim's 4x4 Fiat. The victim was left stranded in Holly Hill.
The attack happened between 10am and 10.35am, on Monday, August 4.
A Maidstone and Malling Police spokeswoman said: "It's an absolutely deplorable crime.
"This good Samaritan stopped to help and he ended up being robbed. It's horrendous."
She added: "We want to apprehend the offender as soon as possible which is why it's very important that anyone who stopped to help the old man comes forward."
Maidstone and Malling police are appealing for anyone who witnessed any part of the incident or knows anything about it to contact Det Sgt Fiona Mattholie on 01622 608182 or Crimestoppers free and confidentially on 0800 555111.
