Sanctuary fears closure after falling prey to thieves

Eagle Heights is threatened with closure
Eagle Heights is threatened with closure

One of Britain's leading bird of prey centres could be forced out of business by thieves and vandals after a spate of costly break-ins.

Eynsford's Eagle Heights owner Alan Ames was at the end of his tether after being targeted up to three times a week.

His 22-year-old son Jonny was also fearing for his safety and that of the animals after confronting one gang of intruders last September.

But the popular tourist attraction has had few problems since Mr Ames set up a mobile home in the grounds - with Jonny and a rottweiler as security.

But the pair are set to be turfed out after Sevenoaks District Council decided the home has to go because it does not have planning permission.

Now Eagle Heights - one of the nation's biggest bird of prey centres - fears intruders will return if it loses an appeal against the ban and it will have to close.
