PUPILS at a junior school in Chatham have been collecting loose change so they can raise money for charity.

Youngsters at Lordswood Junior School in Lordswood Lane have spent the last couple of weeks collecting as many coins as they possibly can to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

The idea for collecting the cash was born from twin students at the school who had first hand experience of the disease.

Aaron and Billy Crosby, who are both in year six, wrote a letter to their head teacher asking if the school could organise a fundraising event as their grandmother suffers from the disease and they wanted to raise money for the charity.

Head teacher, Janice Crowhurst, said: "We are really proud of the boys. It was good for them to take the initiative to write a letter about something that is so close to their heart.

"It's equally important for the children to learn about things which go in their community. What better way for them to do that than to help raise money for a charity and find out more about the disease."
