THE search is on to find memories of a Kent school ahead of its landmark birthday.
The Hereson School in Broadstairs celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2009 and a major archive project has been launched in readiness for the centenary celebrations.
Former pupil Vic Todd has been appointed “master of memorabilia” and is looking for anecdotes, stories, photographs and memorabilia from the school’s lengthy history.
Mr Todd, who is the school’s site manager and co-ordinator, said: "We want our centenary year to be special. I would like to hear from anyone who has connections with the school.
"I have unearthed some archive material at the school – but we really need to hear from those former students who can write and tell us their experiences.”
Mr Todd has long-term ties with the school both on its former site at Lillian Road in Ramsgate and at its current location at Ramsgate Road, Broadstairs.
He was a student from 1961 until 1966, has been a governor for nearly 20 years, and his sons Richard and Jonathan were both educated at Hereson.
He is planning a timeline display in the main hall highlighting the way the school has developed over the last century.
He added: "We would love to see any old photographs and also any memorabilia ranging from a tie or a sports shirt to books and reports.
“Hereson is a great school. People remark how friendly and pleasant the place is, and that’s something that many of the former pupils will tell you when you meet them.
“It really was, and remains, a good place to learn and develop skills."
