School to reduce pupil intake

BEXLEY Grammar School will be able to reduce the number of pupils it admits each year down from 224 to 192.

The school has increased its admission numbers over the past few years to accommodate a bulge in pupil numbers.

However, because of pressure on its accommodation the school had proposed in March to reduce yearly intake by 32 pupils.

Bexley council took an objection to the Office of the Schools Adjudicator in April.

Adjudicator June Brown published a decision on Tuesday which allows Bexley Grammar to suitably reduce its intake.

The decision concluded that the school would be in a better position to deliver a high quality of education to its pupils if its admission number more closely reflected its capacity and the accommodation it has available.
