A school playing field has been put out of action thanks to an an invasion of ants.
Rochester Math had to close its large sports and cricket field when students returned to school on Monday after a vast number of ant mounds were discovered on the field during the school holiday.
It’s not clear what type of ants have set up home on the site at the back of the school but there’s a possibility they may be red ants.
It’s hoped the situation will be resolved by the weekend and that the playing field will re-open next week.
Assistant head teacher Chris Morris said: “We have a company coming in at the weekend who will probably use some miracle potion to get rid of them.
“Due to the bad weather and the school holiday the field hasn’t been in use but we want to get the problem sorted as quickly as possible so the field can re-open for use.
“There’s quite a high density of mud mounds on the field at the moment. It’s not a huge problem but it’s the fact they’re there.”
