Schoolgirl in road tragedy

KENT Police are appealing for witnesses and other information after a 14-year-old girl died following a collision with a car.

Jasmin Sibley was on foot when she was struck by a Suzuki car on the A274 Headcorn Road in Sutton Valence, near Maidstone, just before 7pm on Wednesday.

The Suzuki, driven by a woman from the Maidstone area, was travelling down the hill from Maidstone towards Sutton Valence when the accident happened at the junction with South Lane.

Jasmin, who lived in the village, was treated at the scene by staff from Kent Ambulance Trust. She was taken to Maidstone Hospital but was later pronounced dead. She was a pupil at Swadelands School at Lenham, near Maidstone.

The Serious Collision Investigation Unit is now looking into the circumstances surrounding the accident. Any witnesses are asked to contact police on 01622 600970.

The coroner has been informed and an inquest will be held.
