SIRENA GRANT: her sister tried to save her

POLICE have found the body of a 14-year-old schoolgirl who fell into the Thames in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Sirena Grant, who lived in Bromley, was with her sister and seven friends when she fell from the Albert Embankment at about 3.15am.

Sister Syreeta, 15, had dived in after her in a desperate bid to save the youngster when bouyancy aids thrown by the group failed to reach her.

Syreeta was later rescued by lifeboats and taken to a south London hospital where her condition is said to be stable.

Her sister’s body was found by the coastguards just before 6pm on Tuesday, near where HMS Belfast is moored. The body had been spotted by a member of the public.

Her mother Valerie Martin has spoken of her distress and it is thought she spent today laying a wreath near where her daughter fell.
