FOUR economic students from Cranbrook School have won the regional final of a Bank of England competition.

The sixth-formers – Mark Bosley, David Avery, Robert Joyce and Adam Vincent – beat rival teams from schools around the South East in the contest, held in Dorking.

The boys go on to the national final, at the Bank of England in London on March 18. There they will have to make a 15-minute presentation, analysing the economic situation and making recommendations for any change to the interest rate to achieve the Government’s target of 2.0 per cent inflation.

They will then have to justify and defend their recommendation under questioning. Cranbrook School’s head of economics John Furminger said: “I am absolutely delighted with the boys’ performance. It’s a fantastic achievement to be going to the Bank of England itself.”
