A stunning sea garden has been opened at Ramsgate’s Eastcliff by South Thanet MP Steve Ladyman.

Volunteers, including residents and town artist Ruth Cutler, have transformed a piece of wasteland.

The work has been led by Thanet Coast Project in partnership with Southern Water and Thanet council.

The garden has been designed using plants tolerant to drought and coastal conditions. It is also an ideal habitat for wild plants.

TCP manager Tony Child said: “This plot of land is one that does suffer from harsh conditions with wind and salt from the sea so converting it into a sea garden was quite a challenge.

“We’d like to thank Thanet council and Southern Water for their support.”

Dr Ladyman said: “It’s great to see the Ramsgate community working together to make this wonderful improvement to the seafront.”

Visitors will find the garden at the north end of the lower promenade car park.
