A MAN and a woman escaped serious injury in a road crash only a few miles from the scene of an accident that claimed the lives of three people at the weekend.

The woman was trapped inside a Ford Escort after it was involved in a collision with a Land Rover Freelander, on the A26 Tonbridge Road, Mereworth, at about 2pm on Monday.

Fire fighters cut her free and she has been taken to Maidstone Hospital.

The road was blocked following the crash.
