Chris Palmer scored his second goal of the season for Gillingham at Bury on Saturday but admitted it counted for nothing.
Palmer, pictured, made the score 4-4 with a brilliant 66th-minute effort but he was willing to swap that strike for three points.
"It fell nicely to me and I just hit it," said Palmer. "But it doesn’t mean anything. I would have taken not to score and for us to win 1-0.
"We’re as disappointed as the fans are. We are fully committed to what we want to do and if we don’t do it then we have to hold our hands up. Even though we scored four goals, defensively we were nowhere near good enough."
Palmer admitted that the half-time telling-off delivered by manager Andy Hessenthaler was well deserved after a poor start at Gigg Lane.
"We just weren’t at the races in the first half, no-one was on it and we deserved a talking to at half-time which is what we got.
"When anyone scores three or four goals away from home you’d expect to win the game.
"It’s so frustrating. The goals they scored were down to our mistakes again."
