A man who was jailed for his part in the UK's biggest cash robbery now faces an extra six years in prison after failing to pay back what he stole.

Stuart John Royle, 53, of Allen Street, Maidstone, was sentenced to 30-years for conspiracy to kidnap, rob and possess a firearm following the theft of £53 million from a cash depot in Tonbridge.

The former car salesman, pictured left, appeared at Folkestone Magistrates' Court yesterday after failing to comply with a £2 million confiscation order imposed in January 2010.

The six year sentence will be in addition to the 30-years he is currently serving.

Detective Inspector Mark Fairhurst of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate said: "This outcome was achieved through a close working partnership with the CPS and the courts. The case demonstrates our commitment to pursue compensation for victims and prevent offenders from benefiting from their crimes.'
