A security review is under way at the Leas Cliff Hall in Folkestone after fights broke out during an Editors gig.

The band went off stage during the
brawl in the audience on Tuesday night.

Drink was thrown around and one
concert-goer got on the stage at the Folkestone venue and grabbed
singer Tom Smith.

Those there criticised the hall
security for not being able to cope.

KM Group photographer Gary Browne,
who was in the audience with his 15-year-old son Cameron, said: "A
small group started creating havoc with beer chucking and
moshing.

"Having survived a few punk gigs,
including a particularly violent Clash concert, it was a bit
of a shock to see this at an Editors gig.

"There was a lack of security. The
security guards seemed overwhelmed and it took them a while to sort
it out."

Luke Yates, who was photographing
the gig, echoed the lack of security line.

"Halfway through the set the
bouncers started to get agitated and could be seen talking a lot on
their radios, but not moving from their stations at the front," he
said.

"A fight broke out over in the
middle of floor by the stage in front of Russell Leech the bass
player, and he actually yelled at them to stop.

"Shortly afterwards the band
stopped playing and walked off."

After the troublemakers had been
ejected, Editors returned.

"Right at the end of the gig a
"fan" got onto the stage and was able to run all the way over to
Tom the lead singer and grab him," said Luke.

"The band's roadies had to remove
the person from the stage as security was yet again, unable to
assist.

"The Leas management were extremely
lucky that this did not escalate into something much worse."

Stephen Levine, the hall general
manager, said: "Security were dealing with several incidents at
once and when the police were called to remove the trouble makers
from the scene they took 45 minutes to respond and didn’t take
anyone away.

"I have been in contact with senior
managers at the security firm to discuss their actions and will be
meeting with them. They are conducting a review and preparing
reports for me so we can take whatever steps are required to ensure
this is a one off incident."
