Serious assault on stranded train passenger

A 29-year-old man was kicked and punched in an unprovoked attack in a Kent village.

The victim, from south east London, found himself in Higham, near Gravesend, after falling asleep on the train in the early hours of Sunday morning.

He woke to find his companion, who he had been travelling home with, was no longer around.

Stranded with no mobile phone and no money, he thought two men who approached would help out by calling a cab for him as one was using a phone.

But as he sat on the kerb in School Lane, close to the station, one of the men kicked him in the face. He was then kicked and punched a number of times and suffered a broken leg, cuts and bruises in the attack, which happened between 1.45am and 2am.

A member of the public alerted the emergency services after seeing the injured man on the ground. He was taken to Dartford's Darent Valley Hospital where he received treatment and was later discharged.

Police in north Kent, who are investigating the attack, would like to hear from any witnesses or anyone who has information about who was responsible.

Both thugs are white, aged 20 to 25, and were wearing a white shirt, black trousers and smart shoes. One was about 5ft 11in tall, thin and had short brown hair. The other was around 5ft 9in tall, stockier and had collar-length light brown hair.

Anyone who can help police with their inquries, is asked to call Det Sgt Tom Duff at Gravesend police station on 01474 565075 or Kent Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
