Kent weather: County to be hit by severe cold weather as Met Office issues level two warning

A severe cold weather warning has been issued across the county with temperatures expected to drop below freezing.

People are being urged to stay safe this week as frosty conditions are likely to increase the health risks to vulnerable patients and disrupt services across Kent.

A level two warning has been issued by the Met Office until 6pm tomorrow.

Long clear spells overnight will allow temperatures to fall to -2C in Kent, with a widespread frost developing expected.

Kent County Council (KCC) deputy director of public health, Dr Ellen Schwartz said: “Being cold isn’t just uncomfortable.

"It can be seriously bad for our health, increasing the risks of a range of illnesses from heart attacks to flu, and put more pressure on NHS services.

"The elderly and people with underlying health problems are particularly at risk, so it is vital that during spells of wintry weather residents keep themselves and their homes warm – even if this is just by heating the bedroom and living room.

“And if you know frail or older neighbours or relatives, especially those living alone, or who have serious illnesses, please make sure they are safe, warm and well.”
