Sex attack on girl in playing fields

DETECTIVES say a number of young people who may have vital information about a sexual assault on a girl of 15 should come forward.

The assault occurred on playing fields at East Peckham, near Maidstone, on Friday, June 1. The girl was there with a group of about 15 young people.

A Kent Police spokeswoman said: "An investigation into the assault is ongoing, the area was searched and officers would like to hear from young people who were at the playing fields on Friday night as they could have information relevant to the inquiry."

Det Con Jon Baker said: "We have spoken to some people who were in the area but others were there and it is important that they come forward.

"Some of the teenagers at the playing fields were drinking but they should understand that anyone who was there can speak to officers in complete confidence and should not be afraid to do so."

Anyone with information can contact DC Baker on 01732 379285 (if possible quoting reference 10091) or callers can ring Kent Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

A boy of 15 was arrested and later bailed in connection with the assault.
