Sevenoaks Vine retained their leadership of the Shepherd Neame Kent League Premier Division with an eight-wicket victory over Hartley Country Club on Saturday.
They were led to their fifth win of the season by a strong all-round performance from Fabian Cowdrey (pictured). He and Tom Parsons both took four wickets as Hartley were bowled out for a modest 140 and then Cowdrey, the son of former Kent and England captain Chris Cowdrey, hit an unbeaten 53 as Sevenoaks reached their target in the 23rd over. Anthony Shales top scored with 72.
Second-placed Blackheath closed the gap between themselves and Sevenoaks to 11 points with a maximum points victory at Beckenham. Opener Daniel Bell-Drummond scored an aggressive 85 to create the platform for Blackheath's total of 234-9. In reply Alex Blake's 92 put the home side in a strong position at 175-4 but his departure signalled a collapse, with Beckenham all out for 195 off the first ball of the final over.
Bexley are just one point behind Blackheath after defeating Bickley Park by four wickets in an absorbing game at Manor Way. After dismissing the visitors for 152 Bexley were struggling on 57-5 in reply, but Sandeep Bains (61) held their innings together and then unbeaten knocks of 33 by Maruf Chowdhury and 32 from Adam Riley carried them to their target.
Lordswood also claimed 20 points at the expense of Canterbury, leaving the east Kent club eight points adrift at the bottom of the table. After electing to bat Canterbury struggled from the start and they were dismissed for 135, Scott Narraway top scoring with 50. Lyndon Lockhart then hit an unbeaten 58 to lead Lordswood home with six wickets in hand.
Bromley moved out of the bottom two with a 102-victory over Tunbridge Wells at the Nevill. Bromley made 243-3 batting first thanks to David Smith (87), Miguel Barbosa (63) and Wayne Morgan (52) and then Tony Mees (6-28) destroyed the Wells top and middle order as Wells were dismissed for 142.
