A SHOP has had conditions imposed on its alcohol licence after drink was illegally sold to an underage teenager.
A Gravesham Borough Council licensing panel heard how a member of staff from Bob’s Stores in Lower Higham Road, Chalk, had sold four cans of bitter to a 16-year-old volunteer during a test purchase by Kent Trading Standards in March.
The panel also heard how staff at the shop had been advised on two previous occasions about age restricted sales following a complaint made by a local businesswoman in August last year.
She alleged a gang of youths had been buying alcohol from the store and as a result had been acting aggressively in the area.
Vural Kacmaz who took over the store in November last year, was present at the meeting and agreed to the conditions imposed.
Speaking at the meeting Mr Kacmaz said: “I know how serious it is. It is an unfortunate situation that the member of staff carried out the sale. I have spoken to my colleagues and told them not to do it. Our policy is to challenge anyone who looks under 21.”
