The county's police force is asking people whether or not officers should be allowed to wear ear stretchers.
Ear stretching is when people use thicker piercings than normal to stretch their ear lob to whichever size they choose.
Now Kent Police asking its staff and members of the public what they think about it and whether it reflects positively on them.
It is asking people to fill out a seven-questions survey to find out whether the piercing meets the College of Policing National Appearance standard.
The force says it it is "committed to increasing work force diversity to deliver a more effective police service and meet the needs of all communities countywide".
Some parts of the survey ask people if they strongly agree, agree, disagree or strongly disagree with statements about the piercings.
It includes statements such as "ear-stretchers increase the risk of the wearer being injured", "police officers wearing ear-stretchers have a positive impact on Kent Police better reflecting the communities we serve," and "police officers wearing ear-stretchers do not reflect positively on the professional image of the service".
