THE UK's largest women-only fund-raising event is coming to Gillingham for the third time.
Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life 2008 is taking place at Capstone Farm Country Park on Sunday, June 1 at 11am.
Women of all ages can either walk, jog or run the five kilometres to raise money to help the charity beat cancer.
Many women take part for a personal reason; some women are cancer survivors while others take part in memory of, or to celebrate, the lives of loved ones affected by cancer.
Natasha Etienne, area event manager for Race for Life, said: "We hope this is an invitation women can't refuse.
"At Race for Life there are thousands of women of all ages and abilities, shapes and sizes who will motivate and inspire each other to complete the five kilometre course.
"Many simply walk round, chatting and having fun, but all share and enjoy the incredible sisterhood and spirit on the day.
"Last year's events had an unforgettable atmosphere and we raised an incredible £103,000. This year, we are hoping that 2,000 women will sign up to take part in the Gillingham event, helping us to raise a target of £161,000."
Sarah Hills has taken part in the Race for Life many times and said: "I usually race with my sister and a work colleague – all of us have lost someone to cancer.
"It is a great event, doesn't take much time out of your life and is a great atmosphere.
"It really brings cancer home to you when you read on the back of people's shirts who they are running for, especially when you see young girls who have 'mum' or 'dad' on their badges.
"You don't need to raise a fortune – every pound will help."
