Six die in night of road carnage

SIX people were killed in a night of horror on the county's roads on Saturday.

The first accident took place at 6.40pm on the M26, near Wrotham with two

of the later incidents on the M2 near Gillingham taking place within minutes

of each other.

Two men from South London died after their van crossed the central

reservation of the motorway and collided first with a car then a petrol

tanker.

The car driver escaped with minor injuries while the lorry driver suffered

shock. Both were taken to hospital.

The M26 was closed for several hours overnight in both direction.

A 19-year old pedestrian was killed shortly after midnight after being

struck by a vehicle near junction two of the M2 near Gillingham.

Within minutes of that crash a further two pedestrians were killed

following an accident at junction six of the M2 near Faversham.

Church Lane in Deal was closed for four hours after a motorcyclist was in

collision with a lamp-post shortly before midnight.
