Skateboard park saved from closure

A SKATEBOARD park in Thanet that attracts hundreds of youngsters from across the south east has been saved from closure. The future of the Revolution Skateboard Park was in doubt when the former Seeboard warehouse they rented at Dane Valley Road, Broadstairs, looked set to be leased to a company making glass reinforced plastic sewer pipes.

But the message is ‘carry on skating’ now that the depot has been taken over from Seeboard by the recently formed Thanet Community Development Trust, who say the skateboard park will be developed in conjunction with Thanet Leisureforce.

Trust chairman Christo Beukes said that workshops for new industrial businesses and a community resource centre would also be developed on the site, with full and part time jobs created. Funding will be sought from the Single Regeneration Budget and the European Regional Development Fund Community Initiative.

John Davis from Revolution Skatepark said: “We will discuss the future of the skatepark with the Trust and Leisureforce. We are delighted that the Trust has made it possible for this popular facility to be retained and developed.”
