By 2pm, firefighting operations were finished but crews remained at the scene as the wheat continued to burn in a controlled environment.

Those who live near the Malmaynes Hall Road area were advised to keep their windows and doors closed due to the amount of smoke coming from the fire.

This advice has since been lifted and crews have left the scene.

A spokesperson for the Kent Fire and Rescue Service said approximately three tonnes of wheat was on fire as well as some household waste.
