From Van Morrison to Tchaikovsky, Beryl Reid to Penelope Keith, Kent’s biggest arts celebration begins this week.

Highlights of the Canterbury Festival also include concerts from Seth Lakeman and comedy from Marcus Brigstocke and Stephen K Amos.

The event – running for more than two weeks – also celebrates the surrounding landscape with a series of walks, as well as tipping its hat to the arts with various exhibitions.

Visitors can find out what living in Canterbury is like at a display of snapshots of life in the city. A selection of 365 photographs from 72 photographers make up the exhibition at the Beaney art museum, one taken every day from January 1 to December 31, 2011.

A total of 1,502 pictures were submitted by 127 snappers for the 365 Project, which has also published the images in a book, being sold at the event.

Some of the pictures will also be available to buy as prints or canvases. A 2013 calendar will also be on sale.
