Snow yellow weather warning in Kent brought forward to rush hour

Motorists could face tricky journeys home after a yellow warning for snow was brought forward by five hours.

The Met Office weather alert issued at the weekend had predicted the white stuff to come down from 9pm tonight until about midday tomorrow across most of Kent.

That warning was been brought forward to start from 5pm and covers the whole of the county - although so far it has mostly been raining.

A second yellow weather warning has been issued for snow and ice from 3pm on Thursday until midday on Friday across all of Kent.

Parents concerned about whether their children's school may be affected can stay up to date with the latest news on kmfm's school closures website.

Both weather alerts tell people to be wary of possibly heavy snow fall which will turn icy.

There is a small chance of travel delays on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel.

Some rural communities could become cut off and there is a slight possibility of power cuts.

Mobile phone coverage may be affected.

People should be careful of slips and falls on icy pavements, some of which could become impassable because of black ice.

South East 4x4 Response, a team of highly skilled volunteers, is preparing to rescue motorists trapped in the snow.

It works in extreme weather to support other emergency and council services when they are at fully capacity or unable to reach certain areas.
