Margate's third annual Big Sky International Kite Festival proved a soaraway success, as more than 15,000 people descended on the Main Sands last weekend (September 19-20).
World-renowned fliers brought an array of impressive kites to the two-day spectacular. Penguins, sharks and whales, as well as monkeys, teddy bears and champagne bottles, were among the colourful creations that filled the skies.
Dave Kinnear of Margate Town Partnership, which organised the event alongside The Kite Society of Great Britain, said: "The weekend went extremely well, with even more kites for everyone to enjoy.
"We didn't fare too badly with the weather, although a lack of wind on Saturday caused a few problems for some of the larger kites."
Mr Kinnear added: "The festival is now well-established as a family-friendly event, and we're already looking to finalise a date for its return in 2010."
