Spate of vandalism at nature reserve

A KENT nature reserve has suffered at the hands of vandals seven times in the last three months.

In the latest attack, signs were damaged and gate padlocks smashed at the Broadham Down Nature Reserve between Chartham and Chilham, near Canterbury.

The vandalism has been going on since September at the woodland reserve off Mystole Lane. It is maintained by the Kent Wildlife Trust.

Police say holes have been shot into information signs, the main gate ripped off its hinges and tyres set on fire that caused damage to rambler gates and a fence post.

Police community support officer Paul Rigden said: "The motive for these acts of criminal damage and arson is not clear. It would seem that the damage to the main gate was caused by a vehicle of some sort."
