Pupils were jumping for joy at a village school when they heard their sports day will be going ahead after all.
Youngsters at Staplehurst Primary School were facing their second summer without a traditional sports day because of drainage problems on their playing field, caused by construction work.
But thanks to the hard work of Maria Norris, secretary to the governors, the events will go ahead.
Mrs Norris has liaised with both the parish council, where she is the assistant clerk, and Kent County Council for permission to use the field, which is the venue for the annual carnival and fete.
The sports day will be held at the nearby Surrenden playing field next Thursday, for seven to 11 year olds.
