The phrase "April showers" has become synonymous with the wet weather during the month, but according to Landmark Information Group, the UK’s leading provider of flood data, July and August showers could prove to be more of a flood threat in years to come.
In response to the latest data from the Met Office, which reveals that rainfall in the summer months has increased year on year since 2007, Landmark is urging home owners to become more aware of the escalating threat that flooding poses.
James Sherwood-Rogers, of Landmark Legal & Financial, said: “Unfortunately, flood risk is now a very real situation that is here to stay in the UK, and the Met Office figures highlight how it is only set to increase in years to come.
“According to the Met Office, this July was the wettest in England since 1914, with a month’s worth of rain in the first two weeks of July alone. While in July 2007 there was 135.2mm, triggering some of the worst floods in decades.”
To make people more aware of the dangers, Landmark has launched the Know Your Flood Risk campaign in association with the National Flood Forum. The campaign aims to provide practical guidance and support to help protect home-owners and property professionals.
The company has enhanced its range of conveyancing-ready flood reports for residential and commercial properties to include exclusive data from Risk Management Solutions.
The UK Flood Risk Assessment maps cover all sources of flood risk, including surface water river flooding. Landmark’s website highlights flooding issues and provides guidance and advice.
