A rabble rousing music show and the return of some old friends will draw the punters at the Medway Festival of Steam and Transport
This weekend marks the 10th anniversary year of the Medway Festival of Steam and Transport at Chatham’s Historic Dockyard and to mark the occasion there’s a railway theme running throughout the two-day event.
Star attractions at the festival will be engines which served Dockyard workers in the late 19th and early 20th century which will go on display alongside the Ajax engine, which worked at the Dockyard until its closure in 1984.
Enthusiasts can see the 1895 Aveling and Porter Sydenham and 1936 Peckett in steam. Also returning to Medway will be a former Dockyard locomotive, Victory, which is back at its old stomping ground following a lengthy restoration.
Another first will be musical entertainment on the Folk and Blues Music Stage. Hosted by Rochester’s Man of Kent Real Ale House, the stage will feature skiffle band Hobo Jones and the Junkyard Dogs on Easter Sunday. Joining them on the line up that day will be folk band Los Salvadores and Spanish soul act Tener Duende.
On Easter Monday, fat roots boogie comes from King Size Slim, while roots music comes from Green Diesel. There will also be dark gypsy folk from The Chimney Boys. Alongside the Man of Kent Folk and Blues stage will be a real ale bar selling Kentish beers and ciders.
The No. 3 Covered Slip will be the home to a modelling zone where there will be an Airfix “make and take” activity.
Another feature will be Steampunk Village, an area inspired by the Victorian and pre-war era, with a market, fashion stalls, an exhibition and talks.
