Steffan Jones has just a month to make an impression at Kent, but the on-loan Somerset bowler is relishing the challenge.
Jones (pictured right), 35, was recruited to boost Kent's injury-hit attack, and says his move to St Lawrence came as a surprise - albeit a pleasant one.
He said: "I did well in pre-season and was bowling nicely but wasn’t involved in the first game.
"I spoke to Brian Rose (Somerset's director of cricket) who told me they were unlikely to change the side and that Kent wanted to sign me on loan.
"I agreed to come because I just want to play first class cricket. The wicket at Canterbury helps me as somebody who bowls quite full and skiddy, hoping to nip the ball back.
"It’s very similar to Taunton with the crowd close to the action and both are passionate about their cricket.
He added: "I am glad to have come to Kent and had things been different I might have signed before.
"I had a meeting with (then) captain David Fulton but decided to go to Northants instead."
Jones is ineligible to play in the opening Friends Provident Trophy tie of the season at Taunton on Sunday.
